The internet is great for sourcing out 'hole in the wall' spaces that do awesome service: Cafes with cheap coffee, used bookstores, and even, hair salons.
However, things took a turn when a Kuala Lumpur salon "scammed" an influencer, and her sister.

@smackytackywackyflacky storytime: may have been scammed 1.4k? lmao or Am I just cheapskate #tiktoksingapore #tiktokmalaysia #kltiktok ♬ original sound - 😀🌿
In a "storytime" template, the woman narrates her experience with a hair salon in foreign Kuala Lumpur. She begins,
"Today, I'm going to tell you a story about how I got scammed 1.4k in Malaysia. And, whether you think its a scam or not, please let me know."
The story unfurls, and it is noted that the user's sister had found the salon on Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media and e-commerce platform, and encouraged the both of them to go.
During their stipulated appointment time, she was given the "shock of her life", as the price point for both sisters amounted to RM1,400(US$316.42), with a bleach job costing RM760(US$171.77), and a haircut costing RM120(US$27.12).
She especially states how the salon was a "hole in the wall in Setapak", and price points mirrored salons of that in more popular KL locations, such as Pavilion, a shopping centre in the Bukit Bintang district.
In a moment of urgency, @smackytackywackyflacky decided to call her parents for advice, but the salon owner had already started on bleaching her sister's hair prior. In the final portion of the TikTok, she attaches hair results from the salon:
Although, we here at Mashable, aren't exactly hair-experts...
The price point mentioned does bring up the age-old question: In this economy?!
